FANS of Two Doors Down have shared their joy at the "fantastic" news that the comedy will return to TV screens this month.

The show's writer Simon Carlyle retweeted the news on Twitter that the second half of series five will begin airing on Tuesday, July 12 at 10pm on BBC Two after the first half aired in December last year.

It has also been confirmed that series six will begin airing later this year.

Set in the fictional Scottish suburban street of Latimer Crescent, Two Doors Down began with a pilot in 2013, before series one began in 2016. 

The show stars Arabella Weir, Alex Norton, Elaine C Smith, Doon Mackichan, Jonathan Watson, Jamie Quinn, Kieran Hodgson, Joy McAvoy and Grado.

Follwing the announcement, delighted fans took to Twitter to express their joy at the "fantastic news" of the show's return. 

One person wrote: "Hurry back! We've missed you!!"

Another said: "Love this show so much. Can't wait."

A third person tweeted: "Brilliant, can't wait."

Scot Squad star Grado also shared a picture on Instagram with his Two Doors Down co-star Jonathan Watson travelling back from a read-through of series six in London. 

The caption read: "Me and the wee man heading back fae #TwoDoorsDown series 6 read through in London @johnniewatson."
