Works to resurface a major roundabout in Erskine, which are due to begin on Monday, could last up to a fortnight.

The upgrade of Centreholm Roundabout forms part of Renfrewshire Council’s £47million six-year investment in its road network.

There will be road closures at Southolm Roundabout, Mainsholm Roundabout, the A726 at Kilpatrick Drive and Rashieholm Roundabout.

A diversion will be in operation from Parkway to Newshot Drive, Kilpatrick Drive and then on to the A726 and vice versa.

Meanwhile, access for residents in Rashielee will be from Rashielee Road or Barhill Road, with the bus gate suspended and traffic controlled by means of temporary two-way traffic lights.

Entry to the Shell petrol station will be maintained from Barhill Road and the Rashieholm Roundabout.

Councillors Iain Nicolson and Michelle Campbell, who represent Erskine and Inchinnan, said they were aware the works “may cause inconvenience” but added that they were “necessary”.

A joint statement from the SNP duo said: “As part of our record six-year, £47m investment in roads, works are programmed to resurface Centreholm Roundabout in Erskine.

“We realise these works may cause inconvenience but they are necessary for one of the main roundabouts in Erskine.

“They are part of our plans for investment and repair on our local roads, which have been ongoing for a number of years with other roundabouts being planned for upgrade and repair.”

A report was produced on Renfrewshire’s roads and infrastructure investment earlier this year, which summarised some of the key achievements of the programme in the last three years.

These included proactive maintenance of more than one million square metres of the road and footway network, preventative work on 20 per cent of the road network — such as resurfacing, surface dressing and large area patching — and almost £3m being spent on upgrading strategic routes in and out of Renfrewshire.
