A charity that combats loneliness in older people is asking volunteers to zipline from an iconic Glasgow landmark to raise funds.

Glasgow's Golden Generation (GGG) is recruiting people for its newest fundraising effort, which is also a unique experience.

Participants will zipline from the Finnieston crane, over the river Clyde on Saturday, September 17.

Staff are asking anyone who wishes to help to sign up on their website and support their work with the elderly.

The money will go directly to the charity's services, which include activities and meals for pensioners near their three centres, in the city's Southside, West End and East End.

When asked about what kind of volunteers they are looking for, Lesley Giudici, Fundraiser at the organisation, said: "Absolutely anybody.

"We can take people over the age of ten and there is no upper age, so there is nothing to stop any older adults taking part."

GGG is hoping to get 40 people involved, all of whom are required to raise a minimum of £150 before the event.

The crane is 100 ft tall, the slide is 1000 ft long and provides a "fabulous vantage point" to see Glasgow.

The 47-year-old worker added: "We are very excited, this is a nice event to take part in, for different generations of people.

"We are coming out of the pandemic, so we all know what it is like to be isolated but for some older people, that is day-to-day life.

"It's our aim to prevent loneliness and isolation in older adults. Just getting them into the centre for activities and a three-course lunch helps both their physical and mental wellbeing."
