TWO cars were set alight in Lanarkshire on the same day.

Officers were called to the first incident, a Ford Mondeo on fire, around 11.40pm on Monday, July 4 outside a property on Nevis Place, Shotts.

The second vehicle, as Audi Q3, was reported to be torches a short time later on Herbison Crescent in the same town.

Police and fire services rushed to both scenes and the flames were extinguished.

There are no reported injuries.

An investigation was launched into the two incidents as detectives are treating them as wilful.

At this stage, they are not linking them but are keeping an open mind.

Detective Constable Chris Smith, of Wishaw CID, said: "Thankfully nobody has been injured as a result of these reckless acts.

"While we are not linking these incidents at this stage, we are keeping an open mind about whether they are connected.

"I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time, and who may have seen anything suspicious, to get in touch.

"I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage that could assist our investigation.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 3846 of Monday, July 4, 2022.

"Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
