A Glasgow-based florist who started drawing during the pandemic brings new exhibition to a Greenock arts centre.

Ruby Grimes, who runs Ruby Flowers in the West End, turned to art when her business was impacted by lockdown.

Tomorrow, her collection of floral drawings, screen prints and paintings, which capture her connection to flowers, will go on display at Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock.

The show will be available to view until Saturday, July 30.

She said: “I have been a Glasgow-based florist for 20 years.

“My appreciation of flowers and their transient pleasures started at an early age.

“Both my parents loved gardening. I watched them so content in the garden planting flowers and vegetables.

“Cutting flowers and bringing them into the home comes naturally to anyone who spends time in their garden.

“It’s a way of mapping the seasons and appreciating the beauty of the present.

“My drawings are a gesture to their beauty, whether closely examining the fragile ruffle of a crinkled leaf or the grand physique of their form.”

Pauline Kane, director of Beacon Arts Centre, said: “We are delighted that Ruby has chosen to display her beautiful drawings at the Beacon.

“Our regular exhibitions showcase a variety of works from local artists, as well as those from further afield.

“Flowers by Ruby Flowers is inspired by Ruby’s connection to flowers after a career spanning two decades in the floral industry.”

Ruby’s business provides seasonal flower arrangements for weddings and events, including the SWG3 hub during the COP26 climate change summit.
