Thousands of revellers have soaked up some of the best live acts in music by attending the first day of TRNSMT.

The Glasgow Green music festival returned for its fifth year yesterday. It’s back in its usual July slot after the uncertainty of coronavirus restrictions saw last year’s event taking place in September while the 2020 TRNSMT was cancelled.

Glasgow Times:

The Bootleg Beatles kicked off the festival on the main stage with their tribute to the legendary band.

They set the standard high and thousands of revellers enjoyed the songs which propelled the Liverpudlian icons into the spotlight.

The band’s Paul beamed: “You’ve been an amazing audience - it’s been an honour and privilege to be here in Glasgow.”

Glasgow Times:

Fans also lapped up performances from former X Factor singer Ella Henderson, rising star Luke La Volpe and Wigan indie rockers The Lathums.

Ella Henderson paid tribute to her Scottish roots during her set.

She beamed: “It feels so incredible being up on this stage right now.

“I’ve got to say I’ve got Scottish in me, my dad is Scottish.”

Glasgow Times:

Luke La Volpe put on an outstanding display with his unique vocals on King Tut’s stage - a year after he was forced to cancel due to isolation rules.

He joked: “I didn’t expect this many folk here, f**k sake.”

Glasgow Times:

The festival drew to a close with Nile Rodgers and Chic before North Shields singer Sam Fender rocked out his hits to thousands of fans.

Bringing the disco vibe to TRNSMT with Chic, Nile Rodgers took fans on a nostalgic trip performing I Want Your Love and Freak Out.

Glasgow Times:

But the Friday proceedings were all about the return of Paolo Nutini to the Scottish festival stage. The Paisley crooner performed his hits and songs from latest album Last Night in the Bittersweet to his adoring homecrowd.

Tonight, New York indie stars The Strokes are expected to close the festival while Scotland’s biggest star Lewis Capaldi will perform as the headlining act on Sunday.
