LEGENDARY Rangers goalkeeper Andy Goram told loved ones he wanted a funeral 'packed' with people for his final farewell.

The late football legend's ex-wife Miriam Wylie met with his close friend Stan Gordon and Rangers officials to finalise details of Goram's service.

Miriam told the Daily Record: “Andy said anyone who wanted to go to his funeral should get the chance.

"He picked the Wellington because it has a larger capacity than most. But the church can’t have speakers relaying the service to people standing outside for safety reasons.

“Fans can get the opportunity to say goodbye to him outside Ibrox or at the service.”

Wellington Church in the city's West End can hold 900 people, and Ally McCoist, John Brown and former Rangers chairman Donald Finlay QC are expected to give a eulogy as per Goram's request.

His funeral cortege is expected to pass Ibrox stadium at 1pm on Monday, July 18 where there will be a wreath-laying ceremony. The funeral service will start at 2pm.

Hundreds of fans are expected to watch from the sidelines and pay their tributes.

Goram, nicknamed The Goalie, died on July 2 at St Andrew's Hospice in Airdrie after a battle with oesophageal cancer, just weeks after receiving the terminal diagnosis.

There will also be an envelope for mourners to make a donation to the hospice, which will be provided at the church.

An online link will also be available for those who wish to make a donation there.

Miriam added: “It’s what Andy wanted. The staff there were magnificent. We could never thank them enough for the care they gave.”

Goram signed for Rangers in 1991 from Hibernian and spent seven years as the club’s No1, winning five league titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups.
