A TEENAGE boy has been attacked by a brazen group of thugs while walking along a busy area of the River Clyde.

The 14-year-old was walking along the Clyde Walkway on the evening of Sunday, July 10.

At around 9pm, he was approached by a group between Baron’s Haugh Nature Reserve and the overbridge at Hamilton Road in Motherwell.

The victim was then hospitalised and treated for injuries on his back and hands.

While there are no descriptions of potential suspects, cops are now investigating the incident which they believed to be targeted.

Police Constable Ross Preston of the Motherwell Community Policing Team said: “Although the motive for the attack has still to be confirmed, we believe at this time it was a targeted attack.

“No matter the cause, the fact is that a 14-year-old boy has been hospitalised after being attacked by a group of people who have been brazen enough to carry out the attack in a commonly used area by the River Clyde.

"This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.
