A man who kicked off in a takeaway and attacked a housing association staff member while drunk was given a chance to prove himself.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard last week how, around 10.30pm on July 13, 2020, police were called out to a disturbance in a takeaway.

Daniel McDiarmid was in the restaurant shouting and swearing and cops tried to remove him.

He shouted at police "f***ing cunts” and “p***ks” as he was arrested and taken to Stewart Street police station.

The depute fiscal told the court: “He continued his tirade of abuse, repeating the same remarks over and over.”

Outside the police station he threatened officers with the words: “I’ll throw you off that f***ing wall.”

In a separate incident, McDiarmid assaulted a worker at Govan Housing Association’s offices on McKechnie Street when she refused to let him in the building.

The court was also told how, on May 25 last year, McDiarmid, from Govan, turned up at the offices but seemed drunk and was shouting incoherently.

He was asked to stop and take a step back from the doorway.

The depute fiscal told the court the staff member felt intimidated and wanted to close the door.

McDiarmid refused and got closer to the female staff member and grabbed her left arm.

He told her "you won’t close this door on me” while trying to pull her out and onto the street.

Other staff members were able to push the door closed and cops were called who arrested The 57-year-old.

His defence brief told the court that McDiarmid had pro-actively sought help and is already engaging with support agencies.

Sheriff Simone Sweeney deferred sentence to see what progress he makes and ordered him to return to court on November 9.
