HUGE plumes of smoke covered the sky in Glasgow after a fire. 

Images show thick black smoke in the sky visible from the city centre this afternoon. 

Fire crews in two engines rushed to the scene of an inferno at Ardoch Street in the Possilpark area.

They found a pile of tyres ablaze and extinguished the fire, before leaving the area after it was safe.

Attempts were made by the Glasgow Times to contact the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. 

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told Glasgow Live: “We were alerted at 3.27pm on Tuesday, July 19 to reports of a pile of tyres on fire in Ardoch Street, Glasgow.

"Operations control immediately mobilised two fire appliances to the location and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
