The state of white markings and other safety devices on a busy Renfrewshire road has been branded a “complete farce” by an elected member.

An exasperated politician is at “the end of his tether” over the A761 Brookfield to Bridge of Weir Road, which he said he has raised concerns about for more than a year.

Conservative councillor James MacLaren is calling for new white lines and cat’s eyes on the stretch — warning that “winter will be on us before we know it” and motorists could be put at risk if the work is not done.

He added that constituents have repeatedly contacted him about the road.

The Bridge of Weir rep said: “This whole situation has turned into a complete farce and frankly I’m at the end of my tether.

“The A761 is a crucial route in my ward, yet these new white lines still have not been painted and the cat’s eyes have not been improved.

“This is a request I have been making since last year and I have been continually fobbed off.

“Constituents keep raising this issue with me and I will keep demanding answers for them.

“Officials keep assuring me that these works are in the pipeline, but it’s now a case of I’ll believe it when I see it.

“They need to urgently set out a timescale and dates for when these lines will finally be painted and the cat’s eyes updated.

“Another winter will be on us before we know it and this work must be carried out in good time ahead of the winter months.

“If it is not, then motorists who use the A761 in my ward will have their safety put at risk.”

When contacted by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Renfrewshire Council said the works would be finished by the end of September.

A spokesperson said: “We are currently working with our contractor to finalise a work schedule to refurbish the road markings and cat’s eyes on the A761 and these works will be completed by the end of September.”
