A driver knocked a cyclist unconscious after crashing into her.

Happy Happy, 42, ploughed into Ellen Young in Glasgow's Mount Vernon on November 5, last year.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Miss Young cycled to a give way.

Prosecutor Jeremy O'Neill said: "Happy failed to give way and exited the junction at speed and collided with the side of the bike causing Miss Young to fall to the ground.

"As Miss Young was not wearing a helmet, she lost consciousness for a short time.

"Happy stopped nearby and attended to assist.

"An ambulance was called and Miss Young was conveyed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

"It was confirmed there were no serious injuries."

Happy, who had been driving a Ford Mondeo, was later traced by police.

He pleaded guilty today to causing injury to Miss Young by careless driving.

Sentence was deferred until the end of the month pending background reports by Sheriff Tom Ward.

Happy, of Cambuslang, had his bail continued meantime.
