A VIDEO showing Glasgow's streets covered in rubbish and graffiti has been revealed.

Gavin Keatt, a Labour councillor for Hamilton South, shared the footage while on his morning commute in the city centre.

The footage shows piles of discarded cardboard, empty kegs, abandoned wooden pallets, scattered rubbish, overflowing bins, plastic bags and bottles.

Graffiti can also be seen on the walls.

Cllr Keatt posted the video in response to Glasgow being named the third dirtiest city in the world in a recent poll by Time Out.

The city comes after Rome, which placed first, and New York City, which placed second.

The Glasgow Times understands the lane is privately owned.

Meanwhile, we previously reported that a number of council-led teams were being enlisted to tackle issues of litter, graffiti and fly-tipping in Glasgow.

The Clean Glasgow team began their clean-up in the city's East End in early July ahead of rolling out more deep cleans elsewhere in Glasgow.

Councillor Ruari Kelly, Glasgow’s Convener for Neighbourhood Services and Assets, said: "It is a popular community asset enjoyed by local people as well as attracting visitors from farther afield and maintaining these open spaces and addressing fly-tipping in our neighbourhoods is something residents have highlighted as priorities.

“I look forward to rolling out the weeks of action and deep cleans across the city.”

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: “This video shows Sauchiehall Lane, which is privately owned and not an area that is maintained by the council.

"The efforts of our deep clean teams will be focused on publicly-owned ground. Private property is the responsibility of the private owners."
