A LOUT threw a glass tumbler from eight storeys high and spat at an officer in custody.

Stephen Ross, 21, chucked the item in Glasgow's Sandyhills on October 11, 2021.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard the two concierges of the block were told of a man on the eighth floor who smashed his window.

Glass was found to be falling from the floor and members of the public were diverted away.

Ross shouted down to them: "It was a glass I threw out the window."

A smashed glass tumbler was located on the ground.

Police arrived to find Ross at his window who shouted that he was going to barricade himself inside.

Officers went into the building to see Ross attempting to exit.

Ross was chased through the building before being caught and handcuffed.

Ross then spat at PC Ben Wilson.

A spit hood was applied as well as fast straps to his legs.

He was then put into police custody.

Prosecutor Mark Allan added: "While being taken to a cell, he spat at custody officer John Henderson with the saliva landing on his chest."

Ross pleaded guilty to culpable and reckless conduct.

He also admitted assaulting PC Wilson as well as Mr Henderson.

Callum Drummond, defending, told the court that Ross was under the influence of substances at the time.

Sentence was deferred until next month.
