A NEW specialist Portuguese bakery is set to open on the West End. 

Scotland's first specialist Pastelaria, Pastéis Lisboa, is promising to bring "the finest Pastel de Nata you'll ever taste" to Glasgow when it opens on Byres Road on Thursday, August 11.

Using an award-winning recipe, the delicious custard tarts will be freshly made from scratch every day in a unique oven.

Announcing the new bakery on Instagram, bosses wrote: "Scotland's first specialist Pastelaria, Pastéis Lisboa, is bringing THE finest Pastel de Nata you'll ever taste - from an award-winning Portuguese recipe - to Byres Road in the heart of Glasgow's bustling West End this summer (and our unique Vegan version of this authentic, artisan treat!)

"Our addictive Portuguese custard tarts will be freshly made from scratch - all day, every day - in our unique open bakery, and our Iberian deli will feature some of the best artisan food treats from Portugal & Spain - keep your eyes peeled over the coming weeks for more info on our inspirational suppliers."

Sweet-toothed fans of the famous Portuguese pastries took to the comments to share their delight at the opening of the new bakery. 

One person wrote:" Just walked past the store today, can’t wait!

"Thought I’d have to go back to Portugal to try these little pieces of heaven again."

Another said: "Wow so long since I had the real taste of Portugal yum yum and will try and drop in on 11th for sure."

A third added: "How exciting. We won’t have to go to Lisbon or Porto for our pastel de natas."

We previously reported that West End woman Rita Simões-Muiris using TikTok to document her noble quest to find Scotland’s best Pastel De Nata.

Portugal-born Rita said: "It all started with these little videos I was making about what it’s like to be a Portuguese person living in Scotland.

"I made one TikTok talking about the Pastel De Natas in Lidl and people started commenting with suggestions for places that I could try.

"I thought to myself, 'why don’t I take on the challenge of finding the best Pastel De Nata in Scotland?'"
