A veterinary practice in Glasgow has been forced to close after a fire broke out on the premises.

At around 9 am yesterday morning, Pets 'n' Vets confirmed that emergency services had been called to tackle a 'small' blaze at its Scotstoun branch.

Clients were reassured that all animals and staff were safe and that emergency calls would be diverted to the Roundhouse Veterinary Hospital in the city's Southside.

The Dumbarton Road practice has now said that it will remain shut to allow for essential work to repair damage caused by the fire.

A staff member said today: "We would like to advise our clients that our Scotstoun practice will be closed temporarily, whilst we work to repair the damage caused by a small fire which broke out this morning.

"We are happy to share that no person or pet was hurt, and our fire alarm worked, meaning the local fire service was able to respond quickly.

"Thank you to everyone at the local fire service and rescue team who attended."

Pets 'n' Vets has said that clients will be contacted to reschedule any upcoming appointments in due course.
