Glasgow City Council has provided an update on the reopening of an iconic Southside attraction.

The Glasshouse in Queen's Park has been closed since the summer of 2020 when the works began to renovate the historic dome.

We previously reported that Glasgow City Council said it was deteriorating. There were also concerns about the safety of the structure.

This week, however, the garden around it was reopened to allow the public to use the green space complete with benches and tables.

Glasgow City Council has confirmed that they are looking to reopen the building in the coming weeks, following the completion of remedial works.

For this reason, the entrance to the glasshouse is still sealed off. The cordons baricading the garden, however, were removed and a sign was put up indicating the opening hours, which are as follows Monday to Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 3.30pm, and Friday from 10am to 3pm.

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: "The gardens were within the cordon that was established after serious safety concerns were identified with the dome above the glasshouse.

"The dome was safely removed but the cordon remained in place over the course of the pandemic.

"Some remedial work is still required on the glasshouse but it is hoped it will be able to reopen in the coming weeks."
