THUNDERSTORMS might cause disruption in Glasgow next week, the Met Office is warning.

The weather agency has issued two yellow warnings for most parts of Scotland, including Glasgow.

Floodings, powers cuts and disruption to travel are all possible.

Meteorologists are predicting that while some places will stay dry, "hit-and-miss thunderstorms will develop Sunday and Sunday night, and may bring disruption in places".

A first warning is in place from midday on Sunday, August 14, until 6am on Monday, August 15.

A second warning will then start, which will last until 11.59pm on Monday.

The Met Office is reporting that there is "a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds".

This could lead to delays and some cancellations to train and bus services

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures," it continued.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."

It comes as the UK is experiencing a heatwave that is bringing temperatures up to 28C degrees in Scotland, and 35C in England and Wales.

Glasgow has been enjoying three days of uninterrupted sunshine that is due to last until Saturday.

An amber warning for heat is currently in place in the south.
