Tributes are pouring in for former pop idol star Darius Campbell Danesh who has died at the age of 41.

Earlier today the Glasgow Times reported that the singer and actor who was brought up in Bearsden, was found in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11.

Since the news broke, hundreds have taken to social media to pay their respects.

TV presenter Lorraine Kelly said: "This is really sad.

"Thoughts with his family and friends and everyone who loved him.

"A really good bloke - funny and kind and very talented."

Former X Factor contestant and media personality Rylan said simply: "Proper sad about Darius."

 

TV and Radio presenter Nicki Chapman shared a fond memory of Danesh in a post that read: "A true gent with a kind soul & mischievous twinkle in his eye. From that eventful first audition on Popstars to him kindly inviting me to see him perform on the West End stage.

"Thoughts are with his family at this sad time."

 

He said: "I know the Pop Idol clips are irresistible but Darius had a great career on stage over two decades.

"He was a really talented performer.

On Facebook, award-winning hair and beauty guru Taylor Ferguson has shared a collection of photos taken alongside the Colourblind singer over the years and said: "Devastated at the shocking news of the sudden death of our dearly loved friend Darius.

"Only 41. Our hearts are broken.

"We knew Darius from back in his Pop Idol and he became a family friend.

"He was a regular in the salon, most recently he popped in with his friend Gerard Butler.

"Always super kind and generous. He'd buy the team lunch."

In a statement earlier today Danesh's family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh.

"Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners’ office.

“The local police department have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances. The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue.

“We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother.”
