A lout threatened to shoot hotel staff and assault police officers.

Paul King, 51, hurled abuse at a Travelodge in Glasgow's Govan on February 17 last year.

The city's sheriff court heard King entered the hotel in an "agitated state."

Employee Lauren Reilly asked if King was okay and she was told: "I'm not alright."

Prosecutor Jeremy O'Neill said: "Miss Reilly attempted to engage with King who swung his crutch above his head and shouted 'I'm going to smash up this place'."

Miss Reilly tried to calm him down but was told to "go away."

Miss Reilly and colleague Linda Walker later attended his room to check up on him.

King told them: "I've got a gun and I'm going to shoot you."

The pair backed away from King and dialled 999.

Officers attended and King refused to engage with them.

He stated: "I'm going to stick the nut on you."

King was restrained and arrested as he continued to make identical threats.

King pleaded guilty today to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

Donna Maitland, defending, told the court that King would "not be able to stick the nut on anyone due to his intoxication."

The lawyer added that King is currently tagged for another matter for 15 weeks and is unable to do unpaid work.

Sheriff Tom Ward stated that his "hands were tied" due to his tag and ordered King to be of good behaviour for four months.
