A community celebration in North Glasgow is marking its 20th anniversary this weekend.

The Cadder Gala Day is to welcome locals on Saturday, from 11am until 4pm with a parade, fair, live music, balloon animals, inflatables and so much more.

Gathering at Lambhill Stables, people will march to Cadder Primary School in the company of people in costumes, a giant puppet and drummers.

From midday, stalls will welcome guests at the school, along with live entertainment from local talent.

Children will be able to participate in crafts, henna, facepainting and a magic mirror photo opportunity.

Jim Hamilton, chairperson of the event and deacon at Maryhill Parish Church, said: "I think it's important to try and get people back to normality.

"This is obviously a big thing, our 20th event, it's good to be able to show people that some things are returning to normal.

"I know that we lost some things during the pandemic that aren't going to return, so it's good for people to know that we are trying to get things into the community."

The special two-decade anniversary was originally supposed to be held in 2020, but due to the pandemic, the last two years' parades were cancelled.

Mr Hamilton, who has been involved in planning the gala day since 2000, added: "I'm excited that we can offer this, and for me, like many people, there are some boxes we have never been able to tick and this, gala day returns, is one of them."

Organisers are also keen to hear from local musicians and artists who would like to perform at the event and encourage anyone to get in touch via alistairbolton11@hotmail.co.uk.
