PLANS have been approved for a new restaurant to be built in the place of a city centre Rangers store.

We previously reported that the site of the former Rangers shop at 30 St Enoch Square had been listed for sale or rent

An application had been submitted in June to Glasgow City Council by Sava Estates to turn the empty unit into a 'quality restaurant'.

The application read that the space "represents a wonderful opportunity to deliver a quality eating experience in the well-known Square" and to "contribute to the range and variety of services, activities and experiences which the city can offer."

Now council bosses have given the plans the green light for the new eatery and the venue will go under the hammer at auction on August 25.

The price is set at £536,000.

It is described as a "flexible retail space circa 6,000 square feet with basement, kitchen and toilet facilities. with full 3 class restaurant consent now granted."
