A NEW thriller produced by the creator of Line of Duty and filmed in Glasgow has been announced.

ITV's new six-part crime drama Payback has already begun filming in locations around Glasgow, and we previously reported that lead actress Morven Christie was spotted filming in the city's Aytoun Road in Pollokshields

Morven, who has starred in The Bay, will play Lexie Noble, who becomes involved in a police operation to take down a notorious crime lord, Cal Morris.

Playing Cal is Ozark and Rings of Power star Peter Mullan.

Christie said: “I fell in love with Lexie from the first page, and I’m absolutely delighted to be working with Peter and this wonderful team in my hometown.”

The series has been produced by HTM Television, which has given audiences Line of Duty and Bodyguard with Jed Mercurio at the helm.

Jed will work alongside Madonna Baptiste whose previous work includes Black Mirror, acclaimed screenwriter Debbie O’Malley and Diederick Santer on behalf of BritBox International.

It is being commissioned by ITV's head of drama Polly Hill, who commented: "Payback is a brilliant thriller which questions how well you know your partner and as the secrets come out, asks who you can trust.

"Debbie has written compelling scripts that will keep the audience hooked and surprised."

Debbie's work includes Call the Midwife, Humans and Harlots, and she spoke of her delight to bring the story of Lexie Noble to life.

She added: "Following our ordinary wife and mother through the loopholes and increasingly grey areas of fiscal malpractice, into the murky world of organised crime, Payback poses the disconcerting question: just how far might any of us go, if we thought we could get away with it?”

Polly added: "I’m delighted to be working with Morven Christie again, and of course Jed Mercurio and Madonna Baptiste at HTM Television.”

Madonna Baptiste and Jed Mercurio, on behalf of HTM Television, said: “Working with Debbie has been a joy, and everyone at HTM is proud to bring her thrillingly propulsive crime series to screen.

"We are very excited to announce a stellar lineup of acting talent and pleased to be working with immensely talented directors and production team.”

Joining Morven and Peter in the cast will be Prasanna Puwanarajah and Derek Riddell, who play detectives determined to bring down the criminal empire of Cal Morris.

Filming is taking place in Glasgow, Edinburgh and surrounding areas.
