A POPULAR East End restaurant is set to close due to the "current climate".

Scran, which is located on Alexandra Parade in Dennistoun, will close next month as a result of "culmination" of factors.

The eatery, which opened four years ago, won cafe of the year at the 2021 Food Awards Scotland.

While a post on Instagram said bosses were having to close their doors with a "truly heavy heart", they have teased that there will be a new location in the "very near future" in the city's east.

Owner Chris Mears wrote on Instagram: "So here's the post I've been putting off for as long as possible and dreading sharing with you all.

"I know it's going to upset a great number of our amazing customers and now dear friends.

"But it's with a truly heavy heart we're having to close our beloved SCRAN almost exactly four years since we opened that door.

"Believe us when we say we're as upset as you will be, but our hands are tied.

"There's so many reasons for this but there's no benefit in pointing the finger or blaming any one factor.

"The reality is it's a culmination of so many and the business where we are and in the current climate is simply unsustainable.

"Fear not though as we plan on opening back up in the very near future hopefully not too far away. (East)

"Look on it as though we're simply moving home and we'll be going on a wee few week's holiday.

"The new SCRAN may be slightly different, but it will be better than before and full of the same personal touches, high standards and love you've all become accustomed to.

"Our planned last day of trade will be Sunday, October 2. (Not this weekend!)

"So until then keep showing us the unwavering love and support that's always kept us smiling.

"It's been a blast."

Scran's last day of trade will be Sunday, October 2.
