Primary school children across the country are being invited to get creative to help highlight the new rules of the road.

Following recent changes in the Highway Code - which outline giving pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and motorcyclists precedence over cars and all other vehicles - school uniform specialist Recognition Express has teamed up with road safety charity Brake to launch its annual ‘design a road safety banner’ competition.

The competition is for primary school children aged four to 11 and asks them to submit designs that fit this year’s theme of ‘Safe Roads for All – everyone’s life matters on roads'.

The 12 winners across the UK will receive a full-size high-quality banner of their design to display outside their school and a personalised trophy for their achievements.

Chris Masters, managing director of Recognition Express, said: “Our ‘design a road safety banner’ competition has become a fixture in the calendar of many local schools.

“We are always impressed by the creativity and quality of the designs sent in each year and look forward to seeing more entries in 2022 than ever before.

“With important changes in the hierarchy of road users and the importance of inclusivity to keep all road users safe on the roads, we’re proud to be able to do our bit to help convey this important message and at the same time continue our support for this very important charity.”
