A FREE community event is being held in Glasgow to help struggling families and celebrate the harvest.

The Messy Church Sunday Funday at Govan and Linthouse Parish Church will showcase various stalls with different activities, including arts and crafts and face painting.

With a theme of harvest and sharing, the event will run at Govan and Linthouse Parish Church from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Sunday, September 25.

It is being held as part of a wider campaign called ‘All of Us Govan’, which was launched last year and is supported by the Together for Childhood Govan partnership.

It aims to encourage families to seek help if are struggling.

Guests at the event can also talk to representatives from the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) who will be at the church providing information and advice about a breastfeeding initiative.

Gail Sayles, Local Campaigns Manager for NSPCC Scotland, said: “Events such as this really help to unite communities and professionals together, encouraging families to seek support and know where to turn if or when they need help.

“Under the campaign, we have been able to unite people through events such as the Sunny Govan Community Radio takeover, back in June, and regular lunchtime learning sessions.

“We look forward to seeing everyone at the ‘Sunday Funday’, finding out what support and activities are available and celebrating the successes of All of Us in the area.

"We would also like to thank all our partners, who have helped create, shape and support the campaign.

“Don’t forget the NSPCC Helpline is also there for anyone who wants advice or knows a family that needs support.”

Jamie Goodwin, Arts and Worship Development Worker for Govan and Linthouse Church, added: “We are delighted to work with so many great organisations throughout Govan to bring ‘Sunday Funday’ to life.

"It’s set to be an incredible day focusing on the Church’s wider Harvest celebrations whilst sharing in fun, food, laughter and importantly helpful support available to all those who might need it.

“The Messy Church event is an excellent way to celebrate all that has been achieved through the ‘All of Us Govan’ campaign and really showcases what can be achieved when communities, organisations and local individuals come together.”

There will also be music from The Glasgow Barons and a banquet meal, to be served at 5pm.

Those attending the banquet are encouraged to state their dietary requirements.
