Lewis Capaldi has reached number one in the UK singles chart with his first new music in three years.

Forget Me is the star's third track to achieve a UK number one and has seen him become just the third artist this year to have a single reach the top spot within a week of its release.

The singer-songwriter previously caused a stir by stripping down to just his underwear for a cheeky photo used on billboards across the world in promotion of his new single.

On Twitter this evening he posted another series of scantily clad snaps and thanked his fans saying: "‘Forget Me’ number 1 in the UK chart!!!!!

"Number 1 in your hearts.

"I love you all thank you for making this possible for me x."

Showing that the love is reciprocated one supporter replied: "KING! So proud of you Lewis."

Another agreed: "So so proud of you. 

"Knew you would do it.

"Congratulations, you deserve it."

The news comes after a busy week for the 25-year-old who has busked on Buchanan Street, surprised pub-goers at a city centre open mic night and visited his former college to chat with students.
