AN independent bookshop in the city's Southside has announced its sudden closure.

Bosses at Outwith Books, which is located on Albert Road, announced on social media that the store has now closed, with their Stories from The Raven's Nest with Sarah Thomas event scheduled for Tuesday set to be their last.

They said the decision had been made as trade is "too uncertain".

Their online bookshop will be open until the end of the month.

A thread on Twitter read: "I'm sorry to say it's gone midnight at this little bookshop.

"We are now closed, and our event on Tuesday will be the last.

"Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us to make it this far.

"Sadly, trade at the moment is just too uncertain to take us any further.

"Our Bookshop.org shop will be open until the end of the month, and any sales will help us

"If you have vouchers to spend please email me at info@outwithbooks.co.uk

"Thank you so much for magical times at the bookshop, and to all the customers, authors and friends who helped to make it happen."

Customers of the bookshop shared their sadness at the store's closure.

One person replied: "Sad to hear this folks, always thought it was such a well-curated shop and really enjoyed the Wendy Erskine event, all the best to you."

Another said: "Such sad news. So few independent bookstores in Glasgow.

"You and Outwith will be sorely missed, Natalie."

A third person added: "A huge loss for the Southside."
