A PERSON has been injured in a fire at a block of flats in Glasgow.

Emergency services raced to the scene of the blaze at Shawhill Road in the city's Shawlands at around 9pm on Saturday.

Fire crews dispatched six appliances, and one remains on Sunday morning to "make the area safe". 

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that one person received ambulance treatment. 

A spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 9pm on Saturday, September 24 to reports of a fire affecting the 17th floor of a multi-storey block of flats on Shawhill road in Glasgow.

“Operations control mobilised six appliances to the scene to extinguish the fire. One casualty has been handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Firefighters remain in attendance as they work to make the area safe.”

Police Scotland also attended and confirmed that the person, a man, was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.05pm on Saturday, September 24, police and emergency services were called to a fire at a block of flats on Shawhill Road in Glasgow.

“Residents from a number of the surrounding properties were evacuated as a precaution and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“One man has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service was contacted for comment.
