The owners of Glasgow's newest restaurant are excited to make a name for themselves and serve great food to the community.

Zeus, based in North Glasgow, opened on Wednesday and is serving authentic Greek food.

Mostly, the eatery will operate as a takeaway, in-person and via Just Eat, but there are a few tables in the homey restaurant for sitting in.

Owners Nathan Angelopoulos and Kostas Anthanasopulous met at a previous job and decided to venture out on their own.

Nathan said: “Originally, it was me and my chef.

“I actually sold cars for a living and during Covid I picked up shifts as a delivery driver.

“So, I started working for another Greek restaurant and that is where I met Kostas.

“Just as we were working, we felt like we were good together. Then, we had the idea that instead of working for someone, let’s make our own business.

“I am very good at things in the front and he is very good at things in the kitchen."

The duo are now excited to fill what they perceive as a gap in the market for delicious, authentic Greek cuisine.

A mid-sized, welcoming property at 1057 Maryhill Road seemed like the perfect spot for the business venture.

The 29-year-old said: “For a unit, we had a look around and there is not a lot of good food in the area.

“You have your usual Indian, kebabs and Chinese but nothing similar to us. Greek food is very different.

“The way I look at it is that we serve restaurant food but as a takeaway, that is the concept behind the food itself, rather than cheap and nasty."

On the menu, guests can find classic dishes such as pita gyro wraps, Greek-inspired burgers and pizzas, and traditional items like skepasti, keftedakia and more.

Carefully curated, the selection mirrors a love for the Mediterranean culture.

Nathan, from Coatbridge, said: “I’m half Greek, half Scottish, so having a Greek dad, I used to go there five times a year to visit family and I love the food.

“It’s nice to be from a place like that and bring home food over here for people who might not be able to travel so they can also taste some authentic food.

“My favourite item is definitely the pita gyros because basically it is so filling.

“The amount of food that we put in it is just amazing. The flavours as well, you just taste the tomatoes, onions, chips, meat, the pita bread. There is so much in it and they are very popular.

“I love my sauces, especially the tzatziki. Our chef makes his own and it is just out of this world, unreal.

“Also our traditional doughnuts, not a lot of people make them the way we do it, so it is a completely different tasting doughnut and the flavours are just amazing.

“I just want to get our name out there. I have never worked for myself, I have always worked for somebody else, and now I just want to make something for me and my family and just serve good food to our customers because they deserve it.”
