THE SNP wants a code of conduct for the pro-independence movement to adhere to during campaigning.

If the court rules in its favour the Scottish Government will move to hold a referendum in October next year.

If not it said it will contest the next UK General Election as a ‘de-facto- referendum.

The SNP wants all pro-independence campaigners to abide by a code governing their behaviour.

The resolution passed at the SNP Conference stated that any organisations and parties involved in a new independence campaign will “Adhere to a code of conduct built on the principles of freedom, tolerance, equality, the protection of individual and community rights and the rejection of prejudice  and discrimination in any form.”

The proposal of a code of conduct was proposed by SNP President, Michael Russell, who said: 2As SNP members we are bound by a code of conduct.

He said things have changed since 2014 in a new referendum campaign it will be different and we will need a different approach.

He added: The code doesn’t replace the SNP code of conduct. It is for the wider Yes movement.”
