A popular East Kilbride restaurant has been forced to close its doors.

No 2 Montgomery opened in May 2021 serving a range of dishes including Sunday roast dinners, steaks, brunch, desserts and more.

But the team at the popular village eatery has decided to close after the business became 'unsustainable'.

Co-owner Kevin Dougans told Lanarkshire Live: "Unfortunately, we have decided to close the business down.

"It was a real shame as we were getting busier again after a couple of slow months, particularly our Sunday roasts and live music.

"But rising energy bills on top of general inflation made it unsustainable.

"It is a really sad time for everyone involved as we were looking forward to the Christmas period with our plans of parties and a market in the street to make up for the lost parties because of Covid regulations.

"But, as always, the resilient and wonderful people of East Kilbride will find somewhere to enjoy the festivities and they deserve it - we will really miss hosting them."

It comes as customers reported that they were experiencing difficulties booking, with one posting on social media: "I've been trying to call since yesterday afternoon to book a table... Is there a problem with your phone lines?"

One diner replied: "I heard they have closed."

Another added: "Yeah, they sent me a message. Their energy bills went through the roof. Shame."

Mr Dougans added: "For anyone with unused ItIsOn vouchers, they will be refunded directly from ItIsOn who hold voucher money until it’s redeemed."
