A teenage attacker was caught wearing his victim's distinctive Union Jack jacket days after he brutally stabbed him.

Adam Muirhead knifed William Byrne having earlier allowed the then 17-year-old and a friend to stay the night at his home in Haghill, Glasgow on October 13 2020.

Muirhead was held two days later, but only after he had also attacked friend Scott Clark with a brick.

The now 19-year-old today pleaded guilty to both assaults at the High Court in Glasgow.

It emerged he struck around a year after he had been spared being locked up for two other violent incidents.

Muirhead was remanded pending sentencing in December.

The court heard how Mr Byrne had met Muirhead and an associate near a shop close to his home.

The pair said they had nowhere to sleep for the night and the man offered them his spare bedroom.

After they arrived, Muirhead put on Mr Byrne's jacket with a Union Jack design.

Prosecutor Mark Mohammed told how it was there Muirhead turned on Mr Byrne for no apparent reason.

Mr Mohammed: "While (William Byrne's) back was turned, he felt himself being struck with a weapon.

"Muirhead repeatedly stabbed him on the back, head and arm."

The wounded victim staggered to his bathroom for safety - Muirhead and his friend tried to barge in, but eventually fled.

Mr Byrne alerted a neighbour for help. He had a number of stab wounds as well as a "potentially life threatening" collapsed lung.

On October 15, Muirhead then turned up outside Scott Clark's home also in Haghill.

The man had earlier believed the teenager could be responsible for a break in at his flat while he was in hospital.

The court heard there was no evidence for that.

Raging Muirhead kicked at Mr Clark's door before hitting him on the head with a brick.

He also sank his teeth into the nose of Mr Clark, who only got him away by grabbing him between the legs.

As the man tried to defend himself, he was further punched causing him to fall down stairs.

A woman yelled she was dialling 999, but Muirhead shouted: "What do I care about the police? Do what you want."

Officers turned up with Muirhead still near the scene.

Mr Mohammed: "He was wearing William Byrne's Union Jack jacket when he was apprehended."

He went on to state to officers he only punched Mr Clark once and that any claims of an attack on Mr Byrne were "b******t".

The court heard Mr Clark suffered a wound on his nose through to the bone as a result of being bit.
