A Glaswegian wrestler is gearing up for her 'biggest' fight yet against wrestling hero.

22-year-old Ashley Vega is planning an upcoming match against American professional wrestler, Mickie James.

Despite James being her childhood 'superhero', Vega is set to take on the 43-year-old with the same hunger as any match.

Ashley said: "Once I do this fight, it will put me on the map.

"I'd be wrestling with one of the best, and get to prove that I deserve to be there.

"I've never wanted to wrestle someone as much as this, I've loved Mickie since I was seven years old."

The penilee born-and-bred athlete fell in love with the sport following her older brother's interest for wrestling.

But it was after seeing females enter the wrestling world that got Vega hooked.

She said: "I saw a Mickie James match when I was seven years old, and it was the first time I saw women wrestling.

"At that time, I had never seen women wrestle, or doing those sports, so when I saw that I was completely drawn into it.

"I started watching Mickie James's matches religiously after that, and from that moment on, I planned my whole life out."

After James reached out to Vega on social media, the pair began making plans for a match early next year.

Ashley said: "She messaged about it nearly two years ago now, I was so freaked out I didn’t reply for a long time, I was really shocked.

"Then I recently met her in person and it was just crazy."

Following James's visit, the pair are now starting to figure out dates and locations for the big event.

Ashley said: "She's happy to come to Glasgow and I'm happy to go there.

"I would put all my money on going over there for this, even if I have to put myself in debt I would, it would be worth it to me."

Ashley trained with Joe Hendry at his School of Wrestling in Glasgow from the age of 15, and has since moved to Fife and is now training with Andy Wild at the Fife Pro Wrestling Asylum.

Vega fights both men and women, across all wrestling categories.
