A new independent coffee shop has proven to be a hit in Glasgow city centre thanks to its quirky interiors and focus on fresh ingredients.

Off the Rails opened in September of this year in the former home of Café Nero on Dundas Street, much to the delight of commuters passing through the adjacent Glasgow Queen Street Station.

Glasgow Times:

The Glasgow Times took the time to visit the busy spot this morning to find out what the buzz is all about and speak to the team about their first two months in business.

Straight away it’s easy to see that the space has been completely transformed with bright and colourful awnings that bring a touch of New York to the city centre.

Glasgow Times:

The American feel of the décor is echoed in a deli-style set up which allows you to build your own sandwich with the choice of bagels, baguettes, or a more traditional Glasgow morning roll.

Glasgow Times:

Anyone struggling to decide what to include in their lunch break creation can take their pick from a set sandwich menu devised by the team at Rioja restaurant in Finnieston which includes a tribute to Katz’s Deli in New York made with pastrami, cheese, gherkins and hollandaise sauce.

Glasgow Times:

Assistant manager Sky Johnstone said: “We’ve been having a great time since we opened in September.

“Everyone has been really lovely and complimentary about how different the place is.

“I think our customers appreciate the fact that they have somewhere they can come to get a nice coffee before their train or get a sandwich that’s made on the spot with fresh ingredients.

“We’ve been busy every day and really enjoyed getting to know some regular faces.”
