The new name for a Glasgow primary school has been revealed after a vote by pupils and families.

Three years after St Stephen's and St Kevin's schools moved into the £22million Sighthill Community Campus, a decision was made to officially merge the two in line with the council’s inclusion policy.

In a consultation of three shortlisted choices, St Martin's was agreed as the new name for the school.

St Martin de Porres is the Patron Saint of racial harmony.

Councillor Christina Cannon, city convener for education, communities and equalities, sees the name as the start of the next chapter for the school.

She said: “The renaming of the former St Stephen’s and St Kevin’s primaries is the conclusion of a lot of meaningful engagement with families and staff and a new beginning for the school campus.

“The new school building is a modern, bright and conducive learning environment but we all know that it is the children and staff in the building which makes the school flourish, and I am delighted that the new school’s name signals the start of the next chapter for the local community.”
