Martin Compston has revealed that he and his friend convinced a major 90s band to make their comeback at a music festival he is planning.

The actor previously announced his plans for a festival based in Battery Park in his hometown of Greenock to raise funds for local charity Ardgowan Hospice, as reported by our sister title The National

And now the Line of Duty star has recalled a conversation between his Restless Natives podcast co-host Gordon Smart and Blur bassist Alex James when they bumped into him on a night out.

The Britpop star told the pair he would love to do a warm-up gig in Scotland ahead of the band's return to the stage at Wembley in 2023.

When they suggested the festival, Alex thought it was a 'brilliant' idea.

Speaking on their podcast, Gordon said: "Alex I remember this week because Blur have announced that they're playing Wembley Stadium, right?

"Alex told us on a night out that he was playing Wembley Stadium and you and I said, ‘Well, surely if you're doing a massive gig like that, you'll need to do a warm-up somewhere’.

"And he said, ‘Yeah, we will be having to do a warm-up with a decent crowd’. And I said to him, ‘Well, we've got the perfect thing’.

"And he said, ‘Brilliant. Can we have that conversation?’

"How did we forget? How did we forget that?"

Martin then said: "Because there’s no way Blur will do it, will they!?"

Gordon answered: "But mate this is what I’m saying, we need to follow this s*** up properly rather than fannying about.

"We need to go and speak to Alex and say come on now, if we do something together, surely this is the opportunity.

"This is the moment, this is the time, Blur need to come to Scotland, play Battery Park warm-up for Wembley Stadium, [and] play for your Scottish crowd before you go down there and do one of the most famous venues in the world.

"This is your opportunity."
