A CELTIC star will stand trial accused of careless driving.

Georgios Giakoumakis, 27, allegedly committed the crime in Thornliebank on October 26, last year.

Court papers state the Greek international striker was behind the wheel of a Mercedes Amg Cla 45 at the time.

It is claimed Giakoumakis drove without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other people using the road or public place.

The charge says Giakoumakis was driving while operating a mobile phone in his hands and swerved over the carriageway on Nitshill Road.

Giakoumakis, of the city's Hyndland, did not appear at Glasgow's Justice of the Peace court to answer the single charge.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge today through his lawyer Callum Ross.

A March 10, 2023, trial was due to be set.

However, Mr Ross said: “I wonder if it would be possible [to change the date] as he has various commitments with his occupation.”

The trial was then set for later in the month.

Giakoumakis is ordained to appear on that date.
