A gorgeous new bar and restaurant just opened in Glasgow with a hidden Christmas bar for the festive season.

August House on Mitchell Street is the latest venue from Base Hospitality, the company behind popular city centre venues Nonna Said and The Duke’s Umbrella.

Glasgow Times:

The unit has undergone a massive renovation to convert it into a trendy day-to-night space with warm colours, organic shapes, and soft velvet furnishings throughout.

The team behind the new eatery celebrated the launch night on Thursday.

Open from 12pm until 1am, the restaurant will serve a pan-Asian style menu until 8pm before transforming into a late-night cocktail bar with DJs playing every night of the week throughout December.

Glasgow Times:

Operations manager Callum Raymond Young has been working in hospitality for almost 10 years and is looking forward to finally opening August House to the public.

The 27-year-old said: “From a shell to a fully realised venue, you get to see all aspects of how a venue comes to life.

“Everyone knows how a bar opens, how you get served at the bar, nice and easy, but seeing it from start to finish has been an eye-opening experience and a busy one.”

The main bar and restaurant area boasts a wide arrange of seating areas, from private booths to high tops, and a massive disco ball display lights up the dance-floor area.

Callum describes the venue as “a Gemini” with an “airy and bright” daytime atmosphere that shifts into a more upscale evening venue for a night out.

Callum said: “What to expect here at August House, we are a cocktail bar and small plates restaurant.

“August is translated back to meaning respected and impressive, and that’s reflected when you come in and see the décor.

“The interior colour scheme is based around the idea of August being the gateway to autumn, so it’s very autumnal in its colours. Lots of terra cotta, greens, and a little pink here and there to break that up.

“The architecture is focused on shapes and shadows.

“We have many feature lights that replicate sunsets which will just make you feel relaxed and able to enjoy the environment when you’re here."

The team plans to show Christmas films and will serve festive favourites like mulled wine and cider.

“If you’re out and about in the city centre, looking for something new and exciting to do, pop by us on Mitchell Street.”
