A man has been left with a head injury after a brutal 'unprovoked' attack by a gang of youths.

The 20-year-old was walking along a footpath near Old Coach Road in East Kilbride on Friday night.

At around 11.30pm, he was approached and attacked by a group of four male youths, aged between 15 and 16.

The youths then fled the scene and were seen running off towards The Village.

They are described as being white, with slim builds and wearing dark-coloured tracksuits.

Detective Constable Steven Totten said: “This has been a totally unprovoked attack and I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to contact us.

"Did you see the attack or did you notice four youths running off around the time the crime occurred?

"Any small piece of information could be vital to our investigation so please pass it on.

"I would also ask any motorists with dash cams to check their footage if they were in the area that night.”

Officers are scouring CCTV for any evidence that could contribute to the investigation.

DC Totten added: "Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 4352 of December 2, 2022.

"Alternatively, please call Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be provided anonymously."
