Kids from St Mungo’s Primary School had "the most exciting day" as they got into the festive spirit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The P3-P7 pupils sang Christmas carols for staff and patients in various wards and areas of the hospital on Tuesday.

Starting within the central block of the hospital, the children then moved outside ward 23 to spread some 'sparkle' and festive cheer throughout the building.

Glasgow Times:

Catriona Ward, principal teacher and choir leader at St Mungo's, said: "It's wonderful to be here, it has been a real honour for us.

"It's great for the children to come out and share their talent and gift with the local community, and especially in the Royal Infirmary."

Ms Ward went on to state that the children were filled with a mixture of nerves and excitement.

She said: "The younger ones were a wee bit nervous but super excited as they walked out the door. One of the phrases was 'this is the most exciting day I've had in a long time'.

"As soon as they put a Santa hat on and sing Christmas songs, they really are filled with Christmas cheer."

Glasgow Times:

The children sang big Christmas hits including Away in a Manger, Snow is Falling and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

Though this is the first outing of the St Mungo's choir as a group, they are already planning to sing at Buchanan Galleries and to pensioner groups in Townhead.

The children are also planning to return to the Royal Infirmary on December 16.

Glasgow Times:

Jennifer McBride, acting deputy head of St Mungo's Primary School, said: "I feel proud of them, very much so.

"What's nice is that we have different nationalities represented here, and some of the children are just learning English so this is wonderful.

"As well, hospitals can be a sad or scary place for children, so hopefully after coming here today, they're able to make different associations with it."

The children received smiles and claps from visitors, patients and staff during their performances, as well as donations from passersby.
