Glasgow hosted a carol service supported by Catherine, the Princess of Wales and the Royal Foundation, part of a series across the UK.

The ecumenical ‘Together at Christmas’ service held by Glasgow Churches Together and Glasgow City Council took place at the City Chambers on Sunday.

The series of concerts includes The Princess of Wales’ carol service at Westminster Abbey which will take place on December 15.

The service highlighted the power of human connection and comfort in bringing people together during the Christmas period.

An event of festive cheer and joy, was as an opportunity to thank those who lead with empathy, compassion and kindness in their communities. Elements of the Westminster Abbey service were also featured in the event, and guests received a special foreword written by The Princess of Wales. Lord Lieutenant, Jacqueline McLaren, the Lord Provost, said: “What a joy to be able to be part of this UK wide Carol Service.

“Glasgow Churches Together have worked tirelessly to arrange this wonderful Carol Service and we are grateful to The Royal Foundation’s contribution to the event to ensure a wonderful event to celebrate this festive season

“Services are being held this month across the UK in Belfast, Birmingham, Middlesborough, Newcastle, Peterborough, Telford and Swansea.

The Princess of Wales sent a message to those attending in Glasgow.

She said: “I’m so thrilled that you have been able to attend this community carol service.

“Services like these remind me of what I love so much about Christmas. The coming together of our communities, enjoying festive music and creating treasured memories, whilst also taking time to reflect on the past year.

“The guests at your service, and others being held across the nation, have been invited in recognition of their tireless efforts to help those around them, acting with compassion, empathy and dedication.”

She said those were values the Late Queen Elizabeth “shared and exemplified” throughout her life and that she “particularly liked to recognise in others at Christmas time”.
