A MAN attacked his former step-father after he claimed he would turn up at a family funeral.

John Jefferson turned up at the home of Douglas Lancaster last December 18 despite the men not having seen each other for years.

After getting into the flat in Glasgow's Cardonald, the 41-year-old threatened to kill Mr Lancaster.

He then went on to punch the frightened 62-year-old before fleeing the scene in a taxi.

Geoffrey Forbes, defending, told the High Court in Glasgow how the crime occurred the day after the funeral of Jefferson's brother.

The advocate added the Jefferson family had previous issues with Mr Lancaster.

Mr Forbes: "Despite that background, he (Mr Lancaster) repeatedly made contact with them.

"In particular, before the funeral, he said that he intended to attend the service.

"The family did not want this to happen. He was told that he was not welcome."

The court was told Jefferson was angry at his ex-stepfather disrespecting him and his relatives.

Mr Forbes: "He went to his home to tell him to leave the family alone, but accepts that he went too far."

Jefferson pleaded guilty at the High Court in Glasgow to assaulting Mr Lancaster to his injury.

It emerged Jefferson already had previous convictions for violence.

Lady Drummond remanded him in custody and adjourned sentencing until January 27 in Livingston.
