A parish youth forum has unveiled an upcycled Christmas tree in the North East of Glasgow.

St Paul’s Youth Forum and Indian scrap artist Prashant Kumar have built a Christmas tree made out of 100% scrap metal in the Provanmill and Blackhill area.

The tree includes over 30 bike wheels from the award-winning On Bikes project, to highlight the opportunities that upcycling can bring to communities.

Glasgow Times:

Ben Raw, transport justice coordinator at St Paul’s Youth Forum, said: "What they have created here highlights that where some people see waste, empowered and confident communities see opportunities.

"These opportunities can lie in waste material but also the greatest resource we have, the amazing people of the North East of Glasgow.

"These people have often been ignored or dismissed. They have created beauty out of what others just see as waste."

Glasgow Times:

Locals in the Provanmill and Blackhill area have been "overwhelmingly positive" about the recycled design.

One Resident Jean McLean, said: "This one-of-a-kind tree is absolutely fantastic.

"It gives me and the community feelings of inspiration and hope, absolute belter!"

Glasgow Times:

St Paul’s Youth Forum intend to create more of these trees to sell or donate to companies and charities for next Christmas.
