A popular Glasgow cafe has closed its doors for good today.

We previously reported that the team at Rawnchy in the city's East End had launched the search for a new owner to take over the vegetarian and vegan-friendly spot.

Glasgow Times:

However, owners took to Facebook today to share that they had not yet found anyone willing to take over the lease and would be closing permanently.

The post read: "Rawnchy is now permanently closed.

"Thank you all for your years of custom, loyalty and laughs. It’s been a rollercoaster, an education, a privilege.

"On to chapters new for 2023. I can’t wait to see what this year brings."

Fans of the colourful eatery were quick to comment with messages of support.

One said: "Sorry to see you go, I'm not a vegetarian but your food was delicious, thank you. Best of luck in your new venture."

Another added: "Oh no, very sorry to hear this."

A third agreed: "Sad times."

Rawnchy was founded in 2016 by baker Poppy Murricane who worked from her mum's kitchen before opening the Belgrove Street spot.

Glasgow Times:

She told the Glasgow Times in January last year:  “Rawnchy started when I had just come back to Glasgow after working in Thailand as a diving instructor.

“I had learned a lot about the destruction of coral reefs, so I felt like a wee bit of an eco-warrior.

“I started making raw, vegan-friendly cakes because they were good for the environment.

"Before long I was stocking 25 places all over Scotland.”
