THE team at a beloved Glasgow cafe has delivered an emotional goodbye after closing its doors for good.

We previously reported that bosses at Sinclairs cafe and wine bar in Battlefield had made the 'heartbreaking' decision to close after less than two years in business.

This was due to rising costs and the economic crisis making it 'impossible' for them to carry on.

Now after serving their last cup of coffee, the staff closed the doors on January 22.

They took to social media to share their thanks and appreciation for everyone who has helped them while they were in business, from suppliers to customers.

In a heartfelt statement shared on Monday, a spokesperson said: "And that’s that.

"It’s been an absolute blast! We came to make some banging brunch, sexy sandwiches and great coffee!

"New friendships were forged and we had a proper laugh along the way.

"But all good things and aw that!

"Just wanted to say thank you first of all to the amazing people that made up the team at Sinclairs, past and present. It’s difficult to sum up and express how fantastic you all are, but the good thing is we don’t need to, as the punters already know! You are all the heart of this wee cafe.

"Also thank you to Nicole and Andy, who started this venture and really put everything they could into it. Amazing, caring people to work for and we will be hard-pressed to come across better gaffers."

They also thanked their suppliers, including the Freedom Bakery, Seasonal Produce Glasgow, James Campbell Butchers, Rocco Espresso and Harvey and Brockless for their support 'to the end', as well as fellow businesses Cafe Strange Brew, E Street and Big Bear Bakery for their 'kind words and support'.

They added: "And finally a thank you to the people of Battlefield, who made us a part of the community.

"We’ll miss your faces, your furry pals and your chat! We can’t say more other than, for us, it’s simply the best place to be on the Southside.

"So thank you again everyone, loved every minute, and we’ll see you around."

Kitchen manager Kenny Harkin exclusively told the Glasgow Times last week that starting a business during the pandemic was "tricky in the first place" but then "it really boomed for a while".

But since the beginning of last year, things began a slow and steady decline, and rising food and energy costs began to gnaw at the cafe and customers were feeling the pinch as well.

Cost of Living Crisis: Why are so many Glasgow restaurants closing?

As part of a special investigation, we will be delving into the many closures plaguing the food and drink industry to find out what it means for our city.

As of January 18, the Glasgow Times has reported nine closures in the food and drink sector alone since the beginning of the year.
