People will protest this weekend to draw attention to potholes in Glasgow.

The event is organised by an online community made for people to flag issues with roads, share advice and put pressure on Glasgow City Council.

Over 600 people expressed interest in joining the action, after group founder Jamie Canavan told the Glasgow Times earlier this month that the state of the city roads is "getting worse".

They will meet on George Square at 10am.

The 31-year-old said: "Some of the potholes on the road I don’t even want to call potholes anymore – they are trenches. The damage they cause is just crazy. They are massive.

"The goal is for the public to stand up and be noticed at the chambers. If enough people turn up then that clearly highlights to the council that there is an issue which needs to be addressed.

"It’s important because people are losing hundreds of pounds each day when striking these potholes which could have been avoided."

During the demonstration, participants will aim "to get the point across to everyone that they are tired of road conditions".

The Facebook group, currently with over 10,000 members, was launched in 2021, after Mr Canavan, from Shettleston, hit a pothole in Renfrewshire and failed to claim compensation.
