A group of Glaswegian gymnastics have recently tumbled their way into the history books.

Five kids from the Kingston Gymnastics Club, based in Kinning Park, have been chosen to represent Team Scotland after proving successful at recent a competition in Dundee. 

Charlotte McGregor, Juliet Wilson, Ellie Miller, Joshua Mawuena and Emily MacDuff are the first in their club's history to earn a place in the National Performance Programme (NPP); the most advanced stage of the Tumbling Performance Programme.

The NPP sees competitors representing their country in gymnastic events and performing at the sport's highest level.

Following news of this new venture, the five youngsters are ecstatic.

Charlotte McGregor, 12, said: "I have been part of the Tumbling Performance Pathway programme for 4 years and am delighted to have moved from PPP to NPP.

"I am excited to see what this year brings and thank my coach Fraser Gibson, Scottish Gymnastics and coaches for this opportunity."

While Joshua Mawuena, 12, said: "It was great to have the opportunity to try out for the squads after only being in Tumble for 2 months after a switch from Artistic.

"I’m delighted to have been successful and can’t wait to work with so many other great gymnasts."

Emily MacDuff, 10, added: "I’m so excited to have progressed from PPP to NPP. I can’t wait to get to the first camp to meet everyone and work hard!"

As well as the club champions earning spaces on the NPP, some have also achieved places in the Performance Pathway Programmes (PPP), the level prior to NPP.

Kingston’s Finlay Beck trialled and was selected for PPP this year.

The eight-year-old said: "It feels great, I’m very proud and can’t wait to get started."

Not only are the youngsters thrilled with the news, but Kingston's staff and coaching team are too.

Fraser Gibson, head coach at Kingston Gymnastics Club, said: "I'm very happy for all the gymnasts that got selected. They've all been working incredibly hard, and this is their reward.

"It's great to see four of the gymnasts progressing from the Performance Pathway Programme to the National Performance Programme. Now adding two new boys to the programme also is great for not only the club but also the sport.

"The programme is a way for the gymnasts to showcase their talent with the best gymnasts in Scotland. It's also a great way for them to meet and create new friendships with other clubs.

"I'm very proud of them all and can't wait to see how they all develop this year."

Ciara Roberston, fundraiser and marketing manager for the club, added: "The fact that we’re such a small, community-based club and these kids have been able to reach these heights is great.

"They're all fantastic kids and for them to get to this level is brilliant.

"They're so young and doing such great things.

"It feels amazing."

Kingston Gymnastics Club is a community sports club and a registered charity.

Established in 2018, the club offers a wide range of classes for all genders, including competitive, development, display, preschool and recreational classes.
