GLASGOW residents sent their well wishes to staff at a shop which closed despite a petition to save it.

As the Glasgow Times reported previously, the frozen food specialist announced that it would close its store on Glasgow Road, in Baillieston, yesterday.

In response, a petition was created by locals to try and save the shop, which bosses said was closing due to a "commercial" decision.

Despite the campaign, the Farmfoods store was shut yesterday as people paid tribute to the staff who worked there.

On Facebook, a nearby takeaway said: "Just wanted to say I’m so sad we have lost our local Farmfoods in Garrowhill so suddenly.

"The staff in this store are the most helpful and friendliest and I never thought I would be so upset about a shop closing.

"We will miss you Andy, Tommy and Samir and we wish you all the best luck in whatever your plans are. You know where we are and hope to see you all in the near future."

People were quick to add their farewell in the comments.

One person said: "Genuinely the most friendly and polite shop assistants! Always grafting in there too."

Another commented: "It's so sad, these guys are brill, hope they get something soon."
