TWO men who died after a tugboat capsized off the coast of Greenock have been named by police.
At around 3.30pm on Friday, February 24 the alarm was raised after a tugboat overturned while assisting a cruise ship off Custom House Quay.
Following searches, the bodies of the two crew members were recovered at around 1.40pm on Saturday, February 25.
They have today been named as George Taft, 65, from Greenock, and Ian Catterson, 73, (pictured) from Millport.
No image of George Taft has been released to the public.
Police Scotland, alongside the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, is said to be investigating the circumstances of the incident.
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch is reportedly carrying out its own enquiries.
Chief Inspector Damian Kane, Greenock area commander, said: “Our thoughts are with George and Ian’s families and friends and I’d request their privacy at this difficult time.
“As our enquiries continue there will be an increased police presence in the area.
"I thank the local community for their support and understanding.”
It is understood that efforts will now be made to recover the tugboat.
